What is this website?

Greensboro has a plan to cut pollution from its own buildings, vehicles, and operations, and eventually run entirely on clean energy. This site checks how that plan is actually going, using the City's own reports plus outside records — real estate records, transit data, court/council records, and more — to double-check the City's claims rather than just repeating them.

The three things worth knowing

1. The City says it already hit its first big goal — a year early, but not yet double-checked. The plan aimed to cut climate pollution from City operations by 40% by the end of 2025, compared to 2007. The City's own numbers show that mark was passed in 2024. But that number is still labeled preliminary — an independent check of the math was ordered in December 2025 and isn't finished yet.

2. The next big goal — 100% clean electricity by 2040 — has barely started. As of the last time the City reported it, only about 2% of the electricity it buys came from renewable sources. That figure is old (from 2019) and hasn't been updated since, which is itself worth knowing: some things this plan promised to track annually simply haven't been.

3. Progress is real but uneven, and a lot goes unreported. Some things are clearly happening — City vehicles switching to hybrid and electric, streetlights switching to LED, buildings getting energy audits. But of the roughly 21 specific goals in the plan, about 15 had no update at all in the most recent report. That doesn't mean the work stopped — it means nobody said either way, and this site marks that gap instead of guessing.
